With this project I decided I was going to use my skills as a child of prop making and countless days in the garage just making props similar to this design. My intial idea was a tower of sorts, being more architectural instead of scultural. I wanted to take advantage of the scale and make the tower feel giant if looking at the intended scale of the tower.
I constructed the tower using cheap toys and miscellaneous objects purchased from various stores. To create a complex, sci-fi look, I used parts from a cheap printer, which I had bought at Goodwill, to glue onto the tower. This method can be called “kitbashing” by taking lots of objects and making them appear as a uniform impression. Initially, I was unsure if my idea would work, but I trusted the process. Once I applied black and metallic paint, the tower transformed. The uniform colors blended the parts together, creating a cohesive structure. I finished the tower by adding orange/copper details for a rusty, authentic look.
